Colorado Wins Third National Award for Cybersecurity Program

DENVER, Colo.—The State of Colorado was named a 2015 Cybersecurity Leadership and Innovation Award winner by the Center for Digital Government for its multi-year security strategy, Secure Colorado. This national award in the State Government category was presented during FOCUS 15, the eighth annual Intel Security conference held Oct. 26-28 in Las Vegas.

The awards program, underwritten by Intel Security, recognizes the commitment of government, education, and healthcare organizations to keep confidential data secure despite evolving threats. Winners are chosen based on actions to lead the way and/or demonstrate innovation in cybersecurity.

Colorado’s Secretary of Technology and Chief Information Officer, Suma Nallapati, says, “There is no bigger issue facing IT organizations than getting a handle on cybersecurity. I am so proud of our teams for making huge strides in protecting data for the State of Colorado.”

Secure Colorado, the state’s first cybersecurity strategic plan, was created as a call to action. The plan acknowledges the criticality of state information assets, the need to protect those assets, and the fact that the state is continually facing cyber attacks -- with the team defending against approximately 8.4 million events every day.

This is the third national award for Secure Colorado. The state was awarded in October 2014 by CSO50 and just last month was recognized by the National Association of State CIOs for the Secure Colorado program.
