The Governor’s Office of Information Technology (OIT) hosts Colorado’s open data portal: Colorado Information Marketplace (CIM) at data.colorado.gov. Hosted on the Socrata platform, CIM provides Coloradans with a dataset catalog, dataset repository, API and several tools for exploring and visualizing data. This convenient statewide open data repository is intended for public consumption of information to build applications and increase government transparency and cost-saving.
CIM datasets have been used in app challenges to create innovative solutions for business and government. OIT has partnered with executive branch agencies to maximize the use of public information to inform policy decisions, as well as business development. For the second year in a row, CIM datasets were used to power Colorado’s app challenge Go Code Colorado. This is an opportunity for that state’s next generation coders to use public data to create actual solutions for Colorado communities.
